Michele Godwin, a painter and printmaker, combined the two media she works in to create a series of unique monotypes during her residency. Each piece is first pulp-painted in pigmented linen using squeeze bottles and a series of mylar stencils, then dried under restraint control shrinkage, and finally printed on top with water-based inks, using a woodblock in our platen press. Drawing on top of the base sheet; the slurped pulp lines resemble layered brushwork, creating paper that has a raised effect, like a bas-relief.
Michele received a BFA from the school of Visual Arts in New York and has participated in printmaking workshops at the Longwood Arts Project in New York.
