Some artists are more interested in the formal aspects of working with handmade paper, for its ability to absorb color and its sculptural qualities, at times combining these regards with an interest in its relationship to the natural world. In Christine Blair’s Gathering Series: Table 6, the handmade paper is combined with actual ginger root and fragrant oil to achieve a sensorial experience. Blair emphasizes the blending of non-paper elements with paper pulp—born from being squeezed, pressed, and hammered into life from recycled fiber.
Christine received a BFA in printmaking and drawing from Carnegie Mellon University and an MFA in printmaking from the Tyler School of Art. Christine has also studied at Parsons Parish School of Design, the American University, and Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
